This Sunday, Daniel continued on in our series in The Sermon On the Mount. In Matthew 7:1–6, Jesus challenges our tendency to judge others while remaining unaware of our own shortcomings. We learned that “Judge not” is not a call to abandon discernment, but a warning against playing God by labeling, condemning, or assuming we know another person better than God does.
Jesus’ image of the speck and the log exposes how easily we see what is wrong in others while missing what is happening in ourselves. A healthy disciple grows in self-awareness, but also in selflessness—allowing others to speak truth into our lives and helping others become more like Jesus.
